Gran Canaria: Roque Nublo. Mood: Looking Down to the Sunny South

Before starting our hiking to the natural monument of the Roque Nublo, we stopped for a while wondering the light spectacle of the sun playing with the clouds. It was late in the afternoon and some rays found their way under the clouds. The golden light unlighted the South while on the top the clouds were playing with the wind.

Gran Canaria: Roque Nublo. Mood: Reaching the Clouds

We were lucky to enjoy a second hiking to the Roque Nublo this time just before the sunset with a cap of dark clouds after letting behind us the sunny southern part of the island.  Strong winds and a the end light rain made this hike more adventurous and the landscape dreamy!

In the next days I will present you some of the pictures taken in this short hour, but intensive hour!

Gran Canaria: Roque Nublo

A few days of holidays and vacations need to enjoyed as much as possible and for us this means let everything behind us, take a break from our jobs explore, explore and explore.

This time the wing blew us to Gran Canaria, only a week, but a very intensive week spent on traveling around with our rental car, make a few short hiking tours, sit at the sun enjoying a coffee or a meal and visiting Las Palmas as well as other cities and villages.

We rented a flat in near Santa Brigida as this is a quite central place from where we had the possibility to reach all places of the island in a reasonable time, have dinner on the way or in Las Palmas and be home for a resting sleep.

The first day we planned to reach the Roque Nublo by the roads GC-15 and  GC-600 and follow on of the trail to the natural Monument of the Roque Nublo  and later to a small lake in the south.

After a night of rain, we found the best weather and a T-Shirt was more then enough even in January! The water in a big puddle inspired us to an unusual picture of this iconic place and holes in the rock made a great frame for the Roque Nublo.

Post submission for  the weekly photo challenge: “silence”

Norway: Norway: Lofoten Islands (once more on Moskenesøya – Flakstadøya)

This additional day in the southern part of Lofoten had been so amazing that I could prepare many single post with single photos to bring them to the public and show the stunning landscape of Lofoten; an almost surreal beauty!

We continued the trip of two days before, we visited Ramberg and we continued in direction of Fredvang with the view of the bridge and the mountain on the back. A group of lady stopped at the parking and in a few minutes they were ready to start to hike. The morning had started with unpredictable weather, but at this moment is was fine and sunny and we decided to follow this group of ladies. The hike over the hill was amazing and the view from the mount Heia.

You can find this trail in my wikiloc post: Heia, View over Fredvang

Not far away from Fredvang beach we found the iconic photography spot of the meander of a small river.

We finished this day going back to Reine and surrounding again, for a few photos during sunset, then we headed home.

Just before going be we decided to place most of the luggage in the car to be ready to leave early in the morning to catch the ferry. Outside we saw the stars and the begin of the mystic green light: the aurora! What for a big gift just before living theses islands!

Hiking to Monte Bar from Corticiasca (Switzerland)

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to make an excursion in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland. We arrived in the morning and after the lunch we decided to make a few steps in the mountains around Lugano.

Friend of us suggested to visit the villages around Mt. Bar and I could not wait to go there. Since I was child I looked at these Mountains especially if covered with snow and I dreamed to go there once. In some way this never happened.

I had a look to my beloved app “wikiloc” looking for some way in order to approach the peak until I found that from the village of Corticiasca we could at least walk few hundred meters in the direction of the peak. We arrived in Corticiasca after 3 pm, quite late for this project and we started to look for a parking place: not so easy!

I started the app, and on the way I stopped for a few pictures. The village was really cute, facing the sun and looking in the direction of Lugano.

After passing the village we reached a field with wild narcissus flowers (Narcissus poeticus), sheep at this point we saw the “Denti della Vecchia” (“old ladies teeth)

Mount was just in front of us.  A few hundred meters up adorable highland cattles! We had  spent quite a long time taking picture of those shire animals with the long horns, until one of them became quite friendly with us and we could take photos with it. We had a short rest and we filled up our bottles of water.

My family asked me how much I planned to walk, I could not give an exactly answer I did not know how much we would walk/hike but I my mind I knew I would love to got as far as possible; the view more and more superb! We continued our walk, trees became rare and finally we reached the alpine zone. In front of us we saw the gravel road zigzagging up on the mountain in the direction of the refuge. The peak of the mount w

as covered by fog but the refuge was in front of us!

I was not prepared to find such a modern and beautiful refuge, the architecture was perfect as the combination of the wood and the wide window to view could not be more scenic!

I run behind the refuge for a few photos and I saw that the sky cleared up and peak was in front of me! It seemed so near, but still 200 meter elevations until the peak. It was quite late, we knew that we had the way back, but the peak was irresistible. On the way we had the luck to find some gentian flowers where a fantastic highlight for us! Finally we reached the peak, some snow  here and there.

On the way back we stopped in the hut for a coffee. We will come here again for sure!

No Way! Walk in the Black Forest

schwarzwald-2017-3-of-28

Since I discovered “Wikiloc” at the moment my favorite App, I’m looking around for small excursions and opportunities to enjoy the nature, take pictures and to do something for our health.

Last weekend the weather was great, warm down here in the town, but the same time I saw that in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) everything was covered with fresh coat of snow!

schwarzwald-2017-1-of-28

We decided to try and we followed a trail around a small lake which I discovered in the map.

As we did not get early in the morning and lunch time was approaching my family decided to stop in a restaurant we got a great colored meal and a some Black Forest cake! We eat with the eyes as well, don’t we?

Well after the lunch we tried to take a trail in the forest which was marked in the map, but almost invisible in the nature (see the title!)! Trees over the trail and about 40 cm snow. We tried to follow the trail, as least we knew where we were and we could not get lost. It was fantastic, away from everybody else, an incredible light; a dream landscape!

With the snow we spent much more time as expected, we reached the summit as the skiing area was empty and we enjoyed the sunset walking back to the starting point.

What a great day!

Tenerife: Tagana to Anaga

anaga11

We stated this year with a few days holiday on a great island as Tenerife, an island with different climates, beaches and a volcanic landscape.  The days we spent on the island were well loaded with highlights and all this now seams to be a dream.

I don’t want to forget this experience and I’m happy to share what I saw and felt in this amazing place.

We bought the flight, booked our overnight stays and prepared the program (or better the options) ahead.

A great discovery was the highly recommended app of Wikiloc! With this tool hiking was incredible attractive and we discovered an infinity of options.  All you need a good Smarphone and place (with WIFI) to load the maps and the trail ahead while during hiking the GPS will sufficient and you will not need the internet.

The fist trail we followed (by Nacho 1951) was a great hit; I really recommend to follow his trails if you are on Teneriffe. He is a great expert and a good guide!

Coming from the south we reached the Anaga after about 30 minutes drive through an enchanted forest and spectacular views!

We parked in picturesque village called Taganana with a beautiful old church an a wonderful “dragon tree“.

The walk starts in Taganana from the central of “Plaza Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves”; we walked along historical trails from where we enjoyed the spectacular views and we reached the incredible beautiful laurel forest (“laurisilva”).

We shortened the trail going back to Taganana by car, so that we had some more time to explore the north coast passing from Benijo whith the black sand beach and having a look to the village of Draguillo.
